Jesus learned the Psalms as a child at his mother's side. In the Gospels, we frequently hear him quoting from those Psalms.
In this four-session study of the Psalms, led by Deacon Joe, we will learn about the different types of psalms and gain an appreciation of the Hebrew poetry found in the Psalms. But more importantly, we will learn to listen for the voice speaking to us in the words of the psalmist.
Session begins September 13th at 7 pm in the St. Thomas Old School.
Join us as we explore the lives of seven fascinating women of the Bible. We will study the lives of Hannah, Rahab, Esther, Martha and Mary, the Samaritan woman, and Mary Magdalene. Learn their stories as they encourage us through their trials and triumphs. Discover the times in which they lived. Ponder their legacy in Scripture and contemplate the life lessons they teach. Allow the stories of the women of the Bible to strengthen you and help you to fulfill the call God has on your life. He has called each of us 'for such a time as this'.
If you ever wanted a casual, beginner-level walkthrough of Dante's Divine Comedy by a Dante scholar, this is your chance! Each meeting, we will be watching an overview of different chapters of this astonishing poem, as taught by Professor Jason Baxter of Wyoming Catholic College, called "Dante in the Year of Mercy". We'll use Professor Baxter's associated guidebook and class notes to facilitate a group discussion of what we've learned, read, or considered regarding the prior week's materials.
In this first set of classes, we'll meet Dante the poet and pilgrim, as well as the people (and monsters!) he encounters in the first 34 Canti of the Commedia, called Inferno.
Please join us for all three sections of the Commedia (including Purgatorio and Paradiso) that we hope to cover in the future, and by walking along the treacherous, strenuous, and glorious path together with Dante, we can deepen our faith in new ways.
